Bangladesh boasts gas and coal reserves. The production of cement, fertilizer, chemicals and pharmaceuticals are also noteworthy, the bulk of which are exported. Its traditional export items are raw jute, jute products, tea, leather and leather products. However, current trade patterns show heavy dependence on ready-made garments (almost 90% value-wise) among Bangladesh exports. The frozen food industry, fish products, medicine, cut flowers, plants and fruits also have some share in the export sector. Newer ventures have established Shipbuilding, Green Energy Technology, ICT, transport, packaging and freight facilities. Also paper and print industries have made their mark.
The country is densely populated and has high population growth rates. While there is a cheap labour force, there is growing number of educated young people ready for career development in their home country as well as abroad.
